Each year the Shelby Alliance Church organizes, searches for and collects donated medical supplies and equipment for the Koutiala Women's and Children's Hospital. They sort and pack the supplies, test the and sometimes repair the equipment and then pack it all into a big container. These donations allow us to do surgeries and give other treatments at prices that our patients can afford.

When these containers arrive in Mali the supplies are sorted, placed in our stockroom and then used in surgeries and day-to-day hospital care. The hospital does not have budget funds to pay for these containers, which come several times a year. We depend on gifts to transport these items.

Otherwise we would have to increase our fees, which is hard to do when you live in one of the worlds poorest countries. Even though a doctor visit costs only $3, a normal delivery $18, and a C-Section $75 this is still relatively expensive to the people here as the minimal wage is $70 per month and the per-capita income for the country is only $450 a year.
